Eighth Grader Burned By Exploding iPhone.

An eighth grade student from Kennebunk, Maine was injured last week when her iPhone 5C exploded in her back pocket. She was treated at the hospital for minor burns.

The 13-year-old girl sat down in class with her iPhone 5C in her back pocket. As she took her seat, she heard a pop and smoke began to shoot from her pants. Thinking she was on fire, the girl dropped to the floor with classmates assisting with a fire blanket and extinguisher. Her classmates helped her take off the pants, revealing the melting iPhone in her pocket. She was treated for minor burns as a result of the unusual incident.

This is not the first time an iPhone has exploded. Last August, a woman in China was injured when her phone exploded after a 40-minute phone conversation. She felt the phone hot against her cheek, tried to hang up and felt the glass shatter towards her face, scratching her cornea. Apple has not released a statement on the most recent explosion yet, although a statement can be expected in the near future.
