Georgia Manufacturer’s Defective Product Results in $5.5 Million Jury Award in California.

A California jury recently awarded Christine Scott, 53, a $5.5 million verdict in her product liability lawsuit against the manufacturer of Avaulta Plus Biosynthetic Support System, a surgical mesh device often used to treat urinary incontinence in women.

The surgical mesh was manufactured by C.R. Bard Inc., a Georgia-based company, which no longer sells the device in the United States.

Typically, the device is implanted through a patient’s vagina and used to support her internal organs, thereby preventing incontinence.

The mesh purportedly caused the pain and health problems Scott suffered from after she was implanted with the device in 2008.

A California jury recently determined that C.R. Bard’s product was defective and awarded Scott $5.5 million for her significant personal injuries.
