United States auto manufacturing giant, General Motors (“GM”), has reached out to a small number of 2013 Buick Encore owners regarding the safety of their vehicles. GM says that the steering wheels in these vehicles could come loose or separate from the steering column.
According to the notice issued through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the recall only affects 144 Buick Encores manufactured by GM. The vehicles in question were equipped with heated steering wheels and manufactured in December of 2012.
GM says that a steering wheel fastener on its new compact crossover vehicle, introduced back in January, may have been improperly installed during the manufacturing process.
At this time, no auto accidents or personal injuries have been reported stemming from the defective product. Those who purchased the motor vehicles in question have been contacted by GM and their vehicles are currently being inspected. The unsold models were taken off dealership lots and are also being inspected.
