Shoe Company Faces Lawsuit Claiming “Shape-Ups” Shoes Caused Foot Injuries.

A woman from Mississippi is suing Skechers Corporation, makers of the popular Shape-Ups toning shoes, claiming that the shoes’ dangerous design caused her to develop severe foot problems.

In the lawsuit, the allegedly injured woman claims that, within months of purchasing a pair of Shape-Ups shoes and wearing them regularly, she began to experience severe pain in her right foot.  Upon seeing a doctor, she was informed that she had developed hallux valgus, hammer toe and a claw toe deformity. She was forced to undergo surgery in June 2012 to remedy these problems.  The woman claims that she continues to suffer from pain and problems in her right foot.  The woman further claims that Skechers misled the public about the dangers of wearing Shape-Ups, and misrepresented their potential health benefits.  In addition, Skechers allegedly failed to adequately test the shoes before marketing them.

The woman is seeking an undisclosed amount of personal injury damages in the lawsuit.

This is not the first lawsuit Skechers has faced with regard to their Shape-Ups shoe line.  In 2013, Skechers paid $40 million to settle thousands of cases alleging that Skechers engaged in misrepresentation and fraudulent advertising in its ads for Shape-Ups shoes.  The plaintiffs alleged that Skechers overstated the health benefits and safety of Shape-Ups shoes in these ads.

Eighth Grader Burned By Exploding iPhone.

An eighth grade student from Kennebunk, Maine was injured last week when her iPhone 5C exploded in her back pocket. She was treated at the hospital for minor burns.

The 13-year-old girl sat down in class with her iPhone 5C in her back pocket. As she took her seat, she heard a pop and smoke began to shoot from her pants. Thinking she was on fire, the girl dropped to the floor with classmates assisting with a fire blanket and extinguisher. Her classmates helped her take off the pants, revealing the melting iPhone in her pocket. She was treated for minor burns as a result of the unusual incident.

This is not the first time an iPhone has exploded. Last August, a woman in China was injured when her phone exploded after a 40-minute phone conversation. She felt the phone hot against her cheek, tried to hang up and felt the glass shatter towards her face, scratching her cornea. Apple has not released a statement on the most recent explosion yet, although a statement can be expected in the near future.

Pimp Sues Nike Claiming Sneakers Should Be Labeled “Dangerous Weapons”.

A Portland pimp has filed a $100 million lawsuit against Nike and Jordans claiming his sneakers, which he used to stomp a man’s face in, should have been labeled as a deadly weapon.

Sirgiogiro Clardy, a 26-year-old pimp living in Oregon, was sentenced to 100 years in prison after being convicted of second-degree assault. The incident occurred when Clardy beat an 18-year-old girl so badly that she bled from her ears. He then robbed a man, thought to be a John, and stomped his face in until he was bleeding uncontrollably. Clardy is suing the manufacturer of the sneakers he wore the day of the attack under the theory that Nike and Jordans should have attached a warning label explaining the potential dangers of the product.

During Clardy’s criminal trial, he yelled expletives at the judge, prosecutors and jury. He was diagnosed as an anti-social psychopath and deemed, by a psychologist, to be 100% likely to commit a violent crime again. Nonetheless, Nike and Jordans will have to respond to the $100 million product liability lawsuit.
